Leona Lewis was a sensation in the U.K. before taking on the United States. Her rise to fame started in 2006 when she won the British television series "The X Factor," which has similar format to "American Idol."
Her singles sold very well in the U.K., but her rise to fame in the U.S. and worldwide came after a break she got in 2007 when she signed a 5-album contract with Clive Davis' record label, J Records. Her first album, "Spirit," sold 6.5 million copies and received 3 Grammy Award nominations.
What's up next for the 24 year old? A highly anticipated sophomore album.
"Echo" will be released in the U.S. on November 17. Some of the bigger names that are rumored to have contributed to the album include Justin Timberlake, Ryan Tedder and Kevin Rudolf.
The album has been described as having an organic sound, with positive reviews for the first single titled "Happy." People Magazine calls the song a "passionate, soul-searching ballad." And Rolling Stone writes, "'Happy' is another swing-for-the-bleachers soul-diva drama" and lists it as a Top Single.
