(ARA) - What would happen if clouds rolled in and, instead of rain, it poured cheeseburgers or snowed ice cream with sprinkles? The small town of Swallow Falls is about to find out.
On Sept. 18, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation introduces the most delicious event since macaroni met cheese, the 3D and Imax 3D release of
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs inspired by the beloved children's book first published in 1978.
The movie tells the back story the book alludes to: Swallow Falls has fallen on hard times and all anyone can afford to eat are sardines. But since sardines are "super gross," according to longtime (and failed) inventor Flint Lockwood, he finally makes something big happen.
Since childhood, Flint (voiced by Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader) dreamed of inventing something that would make a difference. But most of his silly inventions just got him into trouble. But he hung on to his dreams and invents a machine that makes food rain from the sky, changing the lives of everyone in his little town.
Flint's machine makes eggs and bacon fall from the sky, clouds of pancakes roll in with sprinkles of syrup, he and his friends jump on a gelatin trampoline and really big hot dogs dot city streets.
This is big news for weather station intern Sam Sparks (voiced by Anna Faris) who gets her big break into TV weather reporting when she gets the scoop on Flint's weather machine. As steak and pie fall from the sky, Sam's career is looking up.
But not everyone is delighted that mashed potato clouds drift by. Earl Devereaux (voiced by Mr. T), the overprotective cop in Swallow Falls is less than amused by the crazy weather.
As the food gets bigger and bigger, Italian dinner takes on a whole new meaning with a spaghetti and meatballs tornado and, worse, the weather spreads much to the horror of the French after a giant BLT is skewered on the Eiffel Tower. When Flint must save the world from his out of control weather machine, his best friend Steve the Monkey (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) steps in to help save the day.
